NEW, MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY-SUSTAINABLE SWIMMING POOL
Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the hotel’s adoption of the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), for the 2010 season Blaumar is opening the season with a new, more environmentally-sustainable swimming pool. It has the following new features: a reduced depth (using more than 50% less water and safer for bathers), a saline electrolysis water purification system (that uses salt as a natural disinfectant instead of chlorine), LED lighting (lamps that use four times less energy and have a useful life of more than 10 years), a natural stone floor and timed pulsing water jets. |
Blaumar is the only hotel in Salou with the Q for Quality, EMAS and ISO 14001 environmental management certificates, which it has had for several seasons now.

The efforts of our team, together with the collaboration of our guests, has played an important role in this achievement and for this reason, year after year, we continue to introduce improvements, both in the service we offer and in the environmental performance of the establishment.
Our Quality and Environment Committee meets once a month to analyse the results of the satisfaction survey filled in by almost two thousand guests every year. Thanks to this information, we can propose improvements and actions that are introduced every season in order to adapt our services to the expectations of our guests and to help protect the environment.
Thanks to these actions, we have won several awards and diplomas from public organisations and tour operators:
2003: The Eco Cambra award for Environmental Development in the Company.
2004: The 2004/2005 Environmental Hotel Award from the Swiss tour operator Hotelplan and the “Neckermann Primo” Award 2004, having been chosen by that tour operator’s customers as one of their best hotels in the world.
2005: The “TUI Environmental Champion 2005 Award” as one of the top 100 TUI hotels in the world and the Catalonia Tourism Diploma awarded by the Catalan Regional Autonomous Government in recognition of the hotel’s outstanding record and its contribution to the development of tourism in Catalonia.
2006: The “TUI Environmental Champion 2006 Award”.
2008: 2nd Prize for the “Best Involvement/Interaction with Guests” awarded by the EMAS Club of Catalonia for the environmental action of making soap with recycled oil from the hotel kitchens.
2008: “Quality in Tourism Distinction” awarded by the Salou Town Council for the quality of services and environmental and quality management systems.
2009: The Venere.com users think that Blaumar Hotel is one of the cleanest in the world the year 2009. This prize is exclusively awarded by guests.
2009: "Tourism Distinction for Environmental Management". Awarded by the Salou Town Council in recognition of the municipality’s business fabric. The following are some of the environmental actions we have taken as part of our management programme:
- The installation of a “Clean Point” in the hotel corridors with containers where guests can deposit glass and plastic for recycling.
- The presentation of an ecological recycled plastic ashtray to our guests to encourage them to keep our beaches and countryside clean.
- The installation of soap and shampoo dispensers in the hotel rooms, thus avoiding the use of approximately 31,000 individual packets of these products.
- The installation of jam and cereal dispensers on the guest breakfast buffet in order to reduce the amount of individual plastic packets used (a reduction of 4%).
- The introduction of environmental education activities in the children’s entertainment programme, in which the children learn about selective recycling.
- The installation of aluminium window frames and double glazing in all the hotel rooms, in order to prevent heat loss in winter and reduce air conditioning use in summer, as well as to lower the interior noise level.
- Other actions: drip irrigation, low-energy light bulbs, flow reducers in cisterns and taps, automatic sensor-controlled switching-off of air conditioning, sectorisation of consumption, etc.
